JARVIS

JARVIS/JERVIS WILLIAM. He came from Ballymena, County Antrim, Ireland to Quebec about 1829. He left with his certificate as a Master Mason, Lodge 364, Ballymena. Spent an unknown period of time in Leeds Tp, where in 1832 he purchased the SW half of Lot 10, 11th Range of Leeds Township. The Conveyance of Property (mortgage paid in full) was dated 14 July 1850. However, by 1843 William Jarvis was living in L'Isle Verte, (Green Island) Rimouski, where he seems to have handled the legal affairs of the local people. He died there in October 1854. One of his daughters, Mary Jane Jervis received a letter of offer from notary, William Hume of Leeds Township, on behalf of a George (Rothman?) to buy the lot in Leeds. Hume's letter dated 30 Oct 1876. In this letter, Hume reported the condition of the lot not to be in good shape, because Mr Scullon (probably Scallon) had destroyed it. The clearance was all grown up with brush, and the woods completely stripped of any lumber that was on it. William Jarvis married Helen Paterson. They had 2 daughters, Mary Jane b c 1835, and Ann Hatheron.
