Samuel sent money home for his parents and some of his brothers to come to Megantic. They arrived in 1852 via New York City. Samuel married in 15 April 1856 at C of E Leeds to MARY JANE LIPSEY b 1835 in Portsmouth, ENGLAND, dau of William Lipsey of the British Army and Maria Ann Dunn. d 1915. The Lipseys came from Drumglass, County Tyrone. Samuel and Mary Jane Edwards lived on the Dublin Range of Inverness Tsp. For a few years after his arrival, Samuel worked for Judge Elin Winchester Church in Kirby, Vermont, where he learned the finer points of agriculture. Their children :

    2. Catherine 'Annie' Jane Edwards 1859-1949 m in 1886 to Samuel Marshall b 1844, d 1937. They lived in Sawyerville, Quebec where Sam was a grocery merchant. Both are buried in the Eaton Cemetery at Eaton Corner near Sawyerville. As a child on the Belsher Range, Inverness Tp, schools were few and far between. What education Sam got was given by a cousin from Ireland, Robert Marshall, who became a storekeeper in Leeds. Sam at the age of 11 took care of his widowed mother Ann Marshall. He and his mother later moved to the farm of Mary Rogan and helped bring up her two children, before Mary Rogan left for Saskatoon. In 1880, Samuel bought a farm on Clifton Rd, Sawyerville and married at the age of 42. Sams's wife Annie Edwards received her first class teacher's diploma in Quebec City when she was 14 years of age. She taught school for 11 years. Her parents objected to her courtship as Sam was 15 years older than her. Her parents sent her for a year to an uncle in Charlotte, Michigan, in hopes to break up the romance, but it didn't succeed. Her parents were very strict. When she taught school her father kept her wages until she was 18, after that she never left the Secretary-Treasurer's office until she paid her father's taxes. She loved to teach school and always helped as much as she could outside school hours as she always taught their home school. As she was only 15 when she started teaching and some of her pupils, who only went in the winter, were in their twenties, she said one of her cousins, who was one of the older ones, insisted that the other would obey "Aunt Jane" (Annie). She taught 4 months in the summer and 4 months in the winter. For this she recieved the munificent salary of $12 a month - a total of $96 a year. For the ancestry of Samuel Marshall and the children of Catherine "Annie" and Samuel, see the Robert and Anne Marshall publication by Gwen Barry.
